012. Corcomroe Abbey, Co. Clare, Ireland.
This Abbey was built in the 12th century for the Cistercian monks who came to the area from an abbey in Co. Tipperary and it was in use for about 400 years .It was once known as "St. Mary of the Fertile Rock", a reference to the nearby Burren's fertile soil. According to legend, the five masons who completed the abbey were executed to prevent them from constructing a rival masterpiece elsewhere.
