The word "Burren" comes from an Irish word "Boíreann" meaning a rocky place. It is a region of County Clare in Ireland, with a bedrock landscape of glacial-era limestone, cliffs and caves, fossils, rock formations and other archaeological sites. Many of the field boundaries are built using the nearby rocks.
